UPDATE: Our grant cycle is currently closed. Please check back for details regarding our next grant cycle soon!
T4T Caregiving is thrilled to announce the launch of our very first Surgery Caregiver Grant Cycle! This means that we will select one US-based individual to provide a fully-funded surgery caregiver for two weeks after their hospital discharge.
T4T Caregiving recognizes that the health disparities trans people face are further compounded by the intersections of racism and anti-Blackness. The 2015 US Trans Survey highlights that trans people who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color experience poverty and houselessness at significantly higher rates than both white trans people and BIPOC cis people. Because of this, we have chosen to prioritize the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color community for our first T4T Surgery Caregiver Grant.
To apply for our first grant cycle, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
-You are a BIPOC transgender or nonbinary person
-You do not have anyone in your life who can be your surgery caregiver and you are unable to afford to hire a caregiver
-You have a confirmed bottom surgery date (phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, or vaginoplasty) scheduled between January-June 2023 in the United States
-You are 18 years or older
If you meet the above criteria, please use the link below to apply for a funded live-in caregiver for your bottom surgery recovery. Applications will be open until Friday, October 28th, 2022.
We are so excited to finally be able to offer this grant to the trans community. Our first T4T Surgery Caregiver Grant was funded by Start the Wave, an incredible nonprofit organization that funds grassroots projects like ours. Please support them if you can!
Caregiver Grant FAQs
What do you mean by "fully-funded"? Is there any cost to me?
For the person who receives this grant, we will cover the full cost to hire your caregiver, including their daily rate for care, travel expenses, and food stipend. Because we are providing a traveling live-in caregiver, the only thing you must provide will be a private room for your caregiver. This usually means booking a two-bedroom Airbnb if you are traveling for surgery. If you are local to your surgeon and plan to recover at home, please reach out to us to discuss the sleeping arrangements for your caregiver.
When will I hear back about my application?
Please keep an eye on your email in the coming weeks after you submit your application, as we may reach out to request further information. We will make a final decision by November 11th, 2022. Due to a large number of applications, we may be unable to respond to every applicant. If you do not hear from us by November 11th, this means that another applicant was chosen.
What if I don't receive this grant? Can I reapply in the future?
Absolutely! We encourage you to apply again during future grant cycles. Even if you do not qualify for this grant, please check back for future grant cycles, as our eligibility criteria will likely change.
When will the next grant cycle take place?
We hope to be able to offer this grant once every 6-12 months going forward, depending on availability of funds. Please follow us on Instagram for updates on future grant cycles!
